How to Salesforce Sustainably

We’re in a climate crisis. It’s the most urgent issue facing humanity today, and the time to act is now. Climate change impacts all of us – every individual, company, city, nation, and it affects the poorest and most vulnerable, amplifying global inequality. There are actions that we can all take to reduce our impact on the environment – and that includes how businesses build and use Salesforce #SalesforceSustainably.

A little about Salesforce at COP26

Salesforce itself is using its full power to accelerate the global transition to a net-zero economy. As part of that commitment, they became a Partner sponsor of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). 

Salesforce has achieved net zero emissions throughout its entire business. After COP26 they released an action plan to accelerate the adoption of net zero across the wider Salesforce ecosystem, helping companies all over the world to achieve the same goal. 

What’s the plan?

Salesforce is going to sequester 100 gigatons of carbon through conserving, restoring, and growing 1 million trees, protecting oceans, and energizing the ecopreneur revolution.

The action plan is based on six pillars: 

Emissions reduction 

“To put the planet on course for a 1.5°C future in the long-term, we need to monitor, avoid, and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions across both our operations and entire value chain, as well as spur systemic changes that will achieve emissions reductions at scale.” – Salesforce

A new product, Salesforce Sustainability Cloud, will help businesses to track emissions reduction by category: Work From Anywhere, Infrastructure, Business Travel, and Supply Chain.

Carbon removal

Trillion trees & ecosystem restoration

Salesforce has set a goal to support and mobilize the conservation, restoration, and growth of 100 million trees by the end of 2030.

Since the goal was announced, Salesforce has already supported 20+ projects throughout the world and funded over 40 million trees. Chief Executive Officer Marc Benioff, pictured below with wife and fellow activist Lynne, said billionaires should go outside and “plant a tree.” – though of course, you don’t have to be a millionaire to do that!

Education & mobilization
